Boys are a busy part of my life. Though they make me happy, I'm not always happy to be completely surrounded by boys, (as you know). Boys are independent, and I think less critical of their moms as a girl might be. My nieces love their mom, but scrutinize her every move and facial expression. I might not be too happy about that. If a boy isn't wearing the right clothing, you might be worried they will catch cold. With a girl, you might think she's dressing too scantily. That could be a problem between mothers and daughters. Boys are generally happy with any pair of shoes you buy them, as long as they aren't too geeky or white. With girls, you might have to drive them all around town, or even to SAN CLEMENTE to a factory store so they can buy the exact shoe they've been dreaming of. I might get pretty fussy about that. Boys will generally eat anything, even though some are particular, and are happy to exist on a jail diet of all foods white. Girls seem more prone to vegetarianism, is it my imagination? Not only do moms cook lovely spaghetti sauce made lovingly with grassfed beef and herbs from a homegrown garden, but now they must add a meatless version as well. (Grumble grumble)
These differences, though loving, are duly noted by a mom pining a life filled with daughters. Perhaps there's a really fine reason daughters have been excluded from my life. Perhaps nieces do the trick, and sons are the easier sex for a crafty mom who loves creating girly-girl items. God does work in mysterious ways. I think he knew just the right plan for me!
Oh my. I always wondered ... hmm...why no girls for Val, Oh Holy One? And your post has answered that question beautifully!
