A Back Stage Pass to the Zoo

Jan is an avid knitter, crocheter, neighbor and zookeeper. She offered to give us a tour of the new elephant exhibit called Elephant Odyssey, scheduled to open May 31st. We met her by the flamingos where she proudly showed us a monkey face she crocheted to attach to a baby gift she was working on. Pretty cute, eh?
Then her dear husband Ron (a peach of a guy) picked us up in a cart and took us to the construction site. Darn, wish you could see him in this photo.
He's the king pooh-bear of elephants at the zoo and supervising the build out. Well, had I known we were to wear hard hats, I would have worn my own (my waterfront guys gave me one for christmas and it has my name engraved on a brass plate on the front of it.) Curses, I never get to wear it anymore! Anyway, here's David listening intently to Ron. I call this shot "Quiet for Once".Now, I didn't get any pictures of the construction site because I knew I wouldn't be able to capture it. But we are going back, so ... to be continued. After driving acres and acres around the new site, we stopped by the camels for a quick visit. Okay, this big fellow is quite a drooler. I fed him carrots and got badly slimed. Ugh. David, of course, treats him as if he's Scoutie and plants one on his nose. Man, did he get slimed!!!Gratefully, we left without incident. And all is well that ends well.

  1. Too bad about your hard hat. That would have been quite the fashion statement! Don't you just love our zoo?

  2. That kiss photo is even better now that I know the story behind it!
