This is a great way for us to go, bloggin' it. It did take me a while to figure out how to sign off on my account and sign in on this one, but I did it! After a short lesson with Susan, Gail and Judy, we will be smooth sailing in "blog land". Yea!
With Marcia setting the tone, I will tell my tale of connecting with the Girls...
A little over five years ago, in the quaint North Park neighborhood where we were living, a store opened up called The Grove. What a relief to have the old shop filled with washing machines relics drop off the map, and get replaced with such an intriguing shop. Greg and I used to walk alot with two boys in a stroller, then two boys pulled in a wagon, finally two boys on bikes. Those were sweet days, uncomplicated, though awfully busy. One day on a walk, there were magical pearls of yarn balanced in this new store window. Greg waited patiently outside with two busy boys while I poked my head in the door and asked what this new store was all about. I still remember seeing Susan sitting at the yarn table and knitting away. I remember asking if this was a knitting store. Susan replied 'Yes!' and told me about the store. I then asked her if they taught knitting classes. She enthusiastically volunteered to teach me to knit. That's how I became Susan's first knitting student, led right to her on the trails of my busy, active boys!
After my first successful scarf, I moved on to hats and more scarves, then Susan helped me write a pattern for the first garment I made, my Anthropology inspired Capelet. Moving on to other capelets, then venturing into sweater territory, all very exciting. A baby sock class, and other classes. Spending all my free time at my favorite place; the Grove, with my new favorite person, Susan. Along the way I met Gail. We hit it off, and tried to get Mel to teach us how to crochet flowers. That's when we developed a reputation for being a bit bad in a class... sigh. It was all Gail's fault. ;o) Judy came along and taught an incredible "Use Your Stash" Throw class, and a color theory class on working with putting yarns together. Then, the best and most exciting class of all; Felted Bags with Marcia DeCoster! Gail had taken Marcia's wallet class, and said this class was not to be missed. Well, she didn't have to twist my arm! I knew felting was in my blood. The class was everything we could have hoped for and more. Somehow, we all knew that beads were in our future after Marcia taught us some of her embellishment techniques in that class.
We have all been brought together by the Grove, the meeting place where people love to visit and share with each other. Susan and Anne's vision has been realized in this incredible gift of togetherness. We are lucky indeed!
